    Savage 1860 .36 Navel pistol

A friend of mine has a local paint store and from time to time he has some interesting items walk in for sale. The owner is a big WWII German & Japanese collector of weapons, uniforms etc and has some Civil War stuff so when this Savage 1860 .36 Navel pistol came in he was interested in it, I just happened to be there when this unfolded. The gentleman selling the pistol said it belonged to an 88 year old man would has owned it since he was a child; he actually dug it out of the ground under his house when he was a young boy. The pistol is in bad shape, it's missing the rod under the barrel for loading the pistol and the right grip panel and screw are missing. I recommended hunting for another in similar condition for parts and if he can pick it up for a couple of hundred he might be able to cobble together a complete gun and have a decent representation that might have some value. My rule has always been if a pistol functions it’s worth 300.00. Since this one missed a couple of parts I recommended 100.00 – 200.00, he wanted it bad so he offered 225.00 and got it. If nothing else he has a nice paper weight.

I’m seeing complete ones selling for North of 1,500.00.

Those guns were never made by Savage Arms, they were made by the Savage Revolving Firearms Co. No relation to Arthur Savage, I think he was running around in diapers when that gun was made.
    Savage- "never say never".

Arthur Savage was not born in the US, he spent time in Australia and then one of the Caribbean islands before ending up in the USA.
