This came on my factory rifle so I'm not sure why it was moved.
I have a new take off HS precision from a 338. I'm dropping a new action in 300 mag into it. The recoil lug cutout is very shallow. My barreled action won't drop all the way in. I suspect this has to do with the construction of the 338 action. My question: dremel out more material or grind the recoil lug I would guess there's 1/16 or less of material that needs to be removed.

I guess the mod felt it should be in the stock forum?
I Dremmeled an aluminum bedding block recoil lug cut out deeper a few weeks back. The job is kind of a pain because the aluminum doesn't cut very easily, but with patience it can be done.
If the barrel is off, it may be easier to grind down the lug? Good Luck...Jim
Thanks. It's off so no issues there. Just wanted to get some input in case there was something I hadn't considered.
The Lapua is a large shank, and there's a pretty good chance the .300 is a small shank. Therein lies your difference.
Just throw the recoil lug on a belt grinder or mill if you have access to one. Remove the 1/16th of an inch or whatever and you'll be good to go.
