    New to pretty much everything...

Well they wanted me to post here first...

I've been shooting randomly for about 10 years, but bought my first gun (an AR) when everything went crazy about 3yrs ago. Since then have increased the collection but never got anything with a scope, bolt action, or larger than 5.56 until buying a Savage 11 Trophy Hunter in .308 a month ago. The idea is to get into long range shooting and I figured this would be an ok platform particularly for someone new to bolt guns, 30cals, and scoped rifles.

The folks on SnipersHide convinced me to get the SWFA 10x scope to replace the Nikon 3-9 BDC, which I did along with a Weaver 20MOA base and low rings. Still in transit right now but I'm not in any hurry. My #1 priority is to put lots of ammo through the gun, work on fundamentals, shoot as well as the equipment will allow and then gradually upgrade the gun. I've read a fair bit about all this, but am aware that's no substitute for experience.

It's fun, and can't wait to go out and get it sighted in at 100yds (the max range I have around here).

EDIT: I'm looking to take a basic long range course this spring with a friend. By then I hope to have the SWFA mounted, have it all in a Boyd's stock (assuming it's an upgrade from the tupperware it comes in) and have a factory load picked. Oh, and decent skills.

It's good to have you over here! It is a great group of folks here and we will help with any question's that you may have. I'm on the Hide once in a while to check thing's out, but most of them are Savage basher's so you have to take thing's with a grain of salt over there. I'm sure you will enjoy this site very much as there is lots of info about Savage rifles here.

    Welcome aboard!
