Savage 11 firing pin spring - one piece, or two?

Removing the bolt handle from my model 11 yesterday, about 1" of spring came out with the "nut" on the back of the firing pin spring, then a small ring fell out. The rest of the spring stayed with the firing pin inside the bolt. I didn't remember the spring being in pieces like that. Should it be? I'm still learning all the parts and pieces to these rifles.

    Thanks for the help.

You have the new style firing pin, that's the way they are made now. The ring goes between the springs to keep them from binding.

Okay, thanks. I figured that was the case but wanted to be sure before I put it back together.
