Age appropriate would depend upon when your gun was made? What's the serial number range?
A lot of guys go with the Weaver K4's on their mid to late 1950's 99's.
I have a 99 featherweight in 308. I'm looking at maybe a 4 or 6 fixed power but i want something that looks age appropriate.

Savage- "never say never".
My 1956 Savage Model 99EG wears an early plum colored Leupold VXII 2x7x33 in low rings and looks great and performs splendidly.

I have a mid 50's era with the flip over packmyer mounts. I am looking at the weaver in the 4 or 6 power setting. Any
suggestions?
Ebay is full of K4's, you can usually pick up a nice one for under $100 and they're tough as nails.
I use Redfield Lo Pro's on all my 99's. Just like the old steel scopes from Denver, not really to hot on the cheaper version Leupold is putting out these days as Redfield.

I put a old Redfield 6x wide view accu track on mine with flip over mounts to still be able to use the irons if I wanted. Looks good and works good.
