    Bullet Weights and Styles?

Loading for new a model 10 tactical rifle, for target shooting.
How any different bullet weights and styles do I need to try to find what my rifle groups best with?
Should I stick with a match type bullet like hollow point boat tail?

    Thanks For Your Help

Out of curiosity, what caliber, barrel length, twist rate, and range you intend to shoot?

    The 10T comes with a 24 inch 1:10 twist .308 barrel. I think it's a bull barrel, and not a varmint profile.

If you are strictly shooting targets, I would try to stick with boat tail styled bullets - they tend to fly well at longer distances than flat base styles - they have a better ballistic coefficient.

Your twist rate is ideal for bullets in the 168-190 weight class. I shoot 175 grain Sierra Matchkings through my Savage 1:10 barrel with outstanding accuracy. They are not as picky about seating depth, like vld style bullets can be. They are also easy to find at most reloading suppliers.

I would look at a 175 to a 185 bullet or even the long TMK in 168 if you want to go long. If your range is 100 to 200 yards the 168 nosler and sierra are fine.
The Dunning-Kruger effect is alive and well.

I am a fan of Berger Bullets. My go to bullet for my 308 win is the Berger 185gr VLD Hunting seated .006-.008" into the lands, on top of 39gr of 3031 powder, in a Lapua case, with a CCI LRP. I would imagine there VLD Target bullet would work equally as well. Estimated Velocity 2506 fps. Sighted in at 105yds(apex of trajectory), getting ~2.4 mils drop at 400yds and .8 mils windage / 10mph crosswind.

Edit. I figure this load is about 1-1.5gr below max charge. As always, start low and work up.
