I have shot 1 doe at 300 yards 100 pounds or so. Clean thru but very little expansion. I went to sst's for better expansion. This was also from 338-06.
Hi,
Going elk hunting next fall, have 338-06 and shoot Sierra 215 grain gamekings with 61 grains of Imr 4350, with Rem primers and Rem 30-06 1x shot brass ran through Lee sizer die.
Good accurate round, 3 rounds 1/2" at 100 yds and 3 rounds 3/4" at 200 off of sand bags.
Sierra recommends max loads for the 338-06 to get velocity up for reliable expansion, anyone shoot elk or deer with these in their 338-06, and if so, how did the bullet perform ?
Read good reviews on bullet, just would like some real world results from 338-06 users.
Thanks

What are you getting for accuracy? I shoot 225 Accubonds with 61.3gr RL17, and it cover leaf's at 100yds, inch and a half to two inches at 300 yards.
Always looking for new loads to try though
FYI
Sierra tech e mail says to keep muzzle velocity above 2400 fps and impact velocity at 1800 or above.
I guess I have to drag my cronoy out.
