JMHO, unless you need the absolute top end competition barrel, they are as good as anything out there. If you order from the factory, you can get any profile up to heavy varmint, any length up to 26", SS or CM, blued if CM, choice of twist & crown, many many choices of chamberings, or you can send your own reamer for a custom chamber.

Down side, last I heard it was 6 months or more for delivery. Or, if they have what you want, you can have one in 4 days from GumShack! I have done both & couldn't be more satisfied. :-) Jim

Excellent barrels for the money. I have quite a few on different builds and they all shoot half moa or better. Gun shack and E. Arthur Brown Co. all carry E.R. Shaw barrels on hand. The last one I got from Eabco was by far the cheapest route; I was able to get a stainless barrel kit with go/no go gauges and barrel nut wrench for $255 delivered.

I have 2 ER Shaw barrels in 260 Rem. They are both custom chambered and had them made up for a couple 1903 Springfields for my boys. Both barrels were easy to clean and under 1/2 MOA.....and for the price, EXCELLENT!!!

"28", your in luck bud. For $199.99, Midway has the ER Shaw 7mm/08 kit. It's Heavy Sporter, but unless you're going to shoot very long strings, that should do you. Includes barrel nut wrench, gauges, and lube.

GunShack has a Heavy Varmint in 260 Rem for $199 and a 6.5Credmore, both of which I slightly prefer over 7mm/08, although all three are great rounds. They also have a McGowen in 7mm/08 for about $325 if you want to spend a little more money.

I would not hesitate to select any of these choices. :-)

My 308 barrel in varmint weight averages 1/2 MOA with Lapua brass and 168 grain Hornady BTHP's.

I have got a 300 win mag ER Shaw that I picked up at Brownells. It shoots just as good as my Criterion barrel for half the price. Although I do not know how long it will last compared to the Criterion.

Has anyone ever seen a large shank ER Shaw barrel?

I have not. And large shank is not listed under Savage on their web site. But I do know they wil make a Sholdered Savage barrel if you order it, and they do chamberings that are not listed on the site. So they "may" build a large shank if requested. They take their orders by phone, and are good folks to talk to, so the best way to get "the" answer is give them a call. :-)

Just put a shaw barrel on my savare 30-06. Went to a 35 whelen. Shoots all the barnes bullets around 1" at 100 yards. A real tack driver.

For the money, savage rifles are a heck of a good shooter. I own custom rifles,Schmidt and bender scopes[all while i was working]You just cant go wrong. I have a savage model 220 slug gun that will shoot 1/1/4 groups at 100 yards all day with the federal trophy copper ammo.
