Nice job and good looking rig!!
My plan when I started was to take a low end Savage rifle & modify it to my taste for a hunting rifle. I started out with a Savage Axis II XP in .243 Win. First change was the optic. I changed the factory 2 piece base for a Weaver 1 piece rail & a Carl Zeiss Conquest HD 5-25 scope I already had. Next was the stock. Replaced tupperware stock with a Boyds Pro Varmint HB stock, looking down the road to rebarrel from pencil barrel. Latest change was replace bolt handle with Glades bolt handle. I was really surprised how much better the bolt handle change made. I've got a pretty good load for this with 87gr Berger VLD hunting bullets & Varget powder. Also as a backup Federal Fusion 95gr factory ammo shoots good in it. I'm kicking around the idea in the future to convert to a 6MM BR Norma because I really like that caliber. This turned out to be a fun rifle to play with.
Nice job and good looking rig!!
now you know the meaning of Savage, FUN!
