    Axis rebuild

Today at a local store I found a rather used Axis(?) .223 for $250. Is this a good model for a rebuild? I want to do a .20 Practical with a new stock.

New guns are eligible for a $50 rebate from Savage, plus have all the attendant benefits of having a new gun. Most of the places around me sell new Axises for around $280. I'd shop around a little and see what a new Axis costs in your area.

It has the correct bolt head for .20 Practical, but the Axis still has a very long action for a .223 Remington-length cartridge in my opinion. It will still work, of course, and I love building Axis projects. If you're looking for a specific stock and there isn't an Axis-version (there aren't many) then another model might be a better choice.
