    Recommend a load for 10 FCP-K .308 Win

I’ve been out of the shooting game for about 8 years (holly god my Redding MG 3BR powder Measure is soled chunk of rust) , and have been itching to get back into it so I went a got myself a Model 10 FCP-K in .308 Win. I’m looking for a good starting point for an accurate hand load, I know in the last few years there has been a number of new powders, and bullets hitting the market, and I would like to here what you are using for your hand load. I manly looking for long rang accuracy, I not hunting with this rifle.
P.S. what are your recommendations for a new powder Measure !!!
Thank you for any information !!

I don't know for sure, but I've heard that if you have some Win brass, Win primers, 168grn SMKs and some 748 starting around 44 grns, you might find something that works.

Something that people are trying recently is the new 208 gr amax over RL17.

I got 2560 out of my 22" factory sporter barrel with new win brass loaded at 2.95.
Semi flat primers, no brass flow, normal bolt lift.
With fire formed brass and a 26" barrel loaded long I could probably get close to
    2700.

My max load was 48.5 gr. At 49 gr I started getting minor brass flow.

I think somebody over at snipers hide with a 32" barrel and a long throated chamber, loading at around 3.1 col,
and fire formed win brass in getting something like 2800 +

What is interesting to me is I also have a 338/284 short barrel rifle that I load with a 210 gr barnes bullets at 2600 and the gun is heavier than my 308, but for some reason the recoil seems more harsh. Probably the powder.

Every 308 rifle that I've owned shot well with 168gr SMK bullets and Varget powder (start at 42.0gr and work it up).

I use IMR 4895 for all my rifle loads,I don't experiment Just use what works for me.I have found that my model 10LE 20" barrel likes 150gr.sierra's with just under 42gr and a cci 200.That is minimum load but it is what it likes every other loading was erratic and would not hold a consistent group out to 200 yards.

Could not find much Vatger so tried some RL15. Have found that my 10FCP in .308 loves the Sierra Matchking 168gr HPBT. So tried 42 graind RL15 . Got several under 1/2 inch groups at 200 yards, and a few even smaller than that. Didnt bother measuring but nice three and four shot cloverleafs. Feel that I could do better but for my own limitations. Next week I am going to see how well this load works at 300 yards. This rifle shoots so well that I dont even bother using the 100 yard range anymore. I did use Varget previous to this and it did very well with almost any decent or better than decent bullet I used.

I am very new to reloading and I'm loving it! My 10fcp did great with 168gr Amax over 43.8 grains of IMR 4064.I tried 3 different cases and primers and they were the same. avg velocity 2710 ES 3.64. they have a better BC than the 168 Sierra. They shot amazingly all the way out to 900 yards they started hitting my target sideways after that. Ima try the Berger 185VLDs and do a ladder test. Anybody try those?

If you want a nice, easy on recoil, 100 yard paper punching load, that I promise you can put 5 on a dime with try this:

    new Lapua brass .308Win
    46.0 gr Varget
    Federal 210m primer
    Sierra 110gr JHP .308
    2.650" COAL

my load put 10 shots in one hole
it is 168 amax with 39.1 grains of imr 3031
this load has done real good in every 308 I have loaded for.

If you want to go past 600 yards you'll want something better than the 168's. On my fcp-k, I have had good luck with 175smk's over 43.9-44 grains of varget. Your choice of brass. I've used Winchester, hornady, and lapua with similar results. Give yourself .010" of jump. On my fcp-k that's a COAL of 2.810"...chrony's @2745fps
I also recently started using lapua 155 scenars over 46.5 grains of varget. .010" jump also, which on my fcp-k is a COAL of 2.835". Haven't chrony'd it yet but it should be about 2850-2875fps. It punches tighter groups on paper at 100 yards than the 175's so I am hopeful that they will shine at 500+

secamp62 - There are so many loads for the .308 it will drive you crazy. Everyone seems to go with Varget. I don't even own a bottle of the stuff. Why? It's too hard to find and too expensive when you do find it. There are several other powders that work just as well. Try IMR 4320, IMR 4895, H4895, TAC, 3031, Etc..... If you are looking at a great "target" load for up to 300 yards, try AA5744 (28.0 grains with any primer / shell you want). The recoil is like a .223 and it's accurate. I've run almost every bullet you can think with the load and it works well. The Remington Corelokt 150 grain is a "hammer" on anything "deer" sized and smaller. If you want more info on the AA5744, send me an email and I'll send you all the load data I have for it. It's listed in Speer and Lyman.
