Knockdown power with a 264 projectile at 1000.............26 nosler
The Dunning-Kruger effect is alive and well.

    1. Nothing. Off with the old barrel, on with the new barrel. Both take a .473 bolt face
    2. Different calibers, different powders that work well in each cartridge. Different case volume between the 6.5 creedmoor and the 308 winchester. No experience in 6.5 creedmoor, I chose the 260 remington.
    3. How much power do you need? What are you trying to do at a 1000 yds?
They who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

The Creedmoor will have better terminal velocity at 1,000 yd than the .308 Win.

"Knockdown" power, however, will depend on whether the bullet you choose will reliably expand at the velocity remaining way out there.

take good look at the 129 & 142 gr Nosler Accubond Long Range bullets. If either or both give better than 1300 fps at that range, you should be OK.

just remember how easy it is to miss or to merely wound at those ranges.

Ok thanks for all the input reason I was looking the knockdown power was for metal targets make them fall over.. this was something I was looking at for long range shooting as for hunting will stay with the 308... Thanks all!!!!!

Knocking over steel depends on momentum delivered by the bullet. Momentum is the product of velocity and mass.

Take the 140 gr AMAX in the Creedmoor with a MV of 2710 fps and project it out to 1,000 yards.

Do the same for the 168 gr AMAX in the .308 and project it out to 1,000 yards.

The momentum is slightly greater for the Creedmoor at that range.

The wind drift for the Creedmoor is almost 30 inches less than the .308 Win.

The drop for the Creedmoor is about 25 inches less than the .308 Win.

Bottom line, the Creedmoor has less recoil, greater knock down power, and requires less correction for wind and elevation.

Very tempting - since I can pick up an Axis 308 pretty cheap - now where could I obtain a barrel in 6.5 Creed? I live in Canada most places in the Great USA do not ship here probably too cold
