    Axis .223 Bullet Weight Accuracy

Just curious , what are the heaviest bullets you gentlemen have successfully shot out of your factory 1in 9 twist .223 factory barrels with good accuracy ? I am just curious how heavy of a bullet they will stabilize .

The "sweet spot" for mine seems to lie in the 62 gr. bullets, but I have gotten decent accuracy with bullets as light as 45 and as heavy as 75.

Nosler 80gr 223 with 24.1gr of Reloader 15, LC cases, wolf primer loaded to magazine shot great in mine.

My 9 twist shoots the 69 gr. Sierra MK and TMK, and Nosler Custom Competition HPBT consistently well, but seems to only like the 75 grainers in high density altitude situations.

Others have good results with the 75's. I have not measured the actual twist of my barrel, so it is possible I have something like a 9.5 twist that is marginal to shoot the 75's.

I went this past weekend to the range, I was trying out 75 gr Hornady Match BTHP's, I was getting sub-MOA groups @ 150 yds with the Axis, I was shocked. I alsonwas shooting 62 gr Federal Fusion's, they were OK too, I gotta say this AXIS XP will pretty much send anything down range with good results. I also got my hands on some Black Hills 55 gr FMJ's, for the $$$ Hornady 55 gr "training " steel ammo is better (for me). Believe it or not, Federal "bulk pack" from WALLYWORLD, (minus the FTF's )are the real value out to 350 yds, in this Axis XP 1:9 rifle, but this Hornady 75 BTHP Match was hitting 8" steel @ 450 right in middle ,ZERO misses!!!! So if you find it on SALE try it.
