Stevens 200 SA bolt stop?

I have a centerfeed Stevens 200 in 6mm-222 Rem Mag that I'm getting ready to rebarrel with a faster twist and use heavier bullets. My question is if I remove/alter the magazine spacer so I can seat bullets out longer am I going to have to move the bolt stop as well on the action for the longer COAL? I'm not trying for a 2.800 COAL like the .308 length cartridges but I'm thinking along the lines of around 2.500 COAL and running 105 A-Max at 2600 fps. This will give me a light recoiling cartridge that'll perform similar to a .308 shooting 178 grain A-Max.

I've been wanting to do the Sporting Rifle Match at the NRA Whittington Center, and had built a 14 lbs all up steel puncher for it. Well on the 29th of Sep I fell off a ladder while fixing a window screen on the second story of my house and shattered my right ankle. When all's said and done it's going to take a minimum of 6-8 months to recover and my ankle will be fused. With this reduced movement in my ankle I'm thinking lighter will be better so I'm trying to shave 4.5-5 lbs off my total build, plus find other places to loose weight in my gear. I've already dropped 15 lbs, but I'm doing PT three days a week to make sure it isn't muscle weight I'm loosing.

You did not mention if you have an extended front baffle. If you do load your rounds and cycle the bolt. If it strips off the mag you are GTG. If not trim it until you are.

I've never messed with the bolt much on a Savage (just swapped a couple of barrels), so I'm assuming I have an extended baffle since it's was a .223 centerfeed. Can I buy a shorter baffle that will still have the .378 case head for the .222 RM, or will I have to get out the grinder and take it down? I'll get the rifle out of the safe tomorrow and take some pictures, however I don't have a good way of measuring it as my reloading room with my calipers is quite far away from the house and my crutches are kicking my butt still.

Short baffle is 0.370'', long baffle is 0.905" in length. Simple to do, just disassemble bolt & reassemble, baffle only needs replaced.

Just grind off the baffle bolt guide "fin" then rotate it 180 degrees, a tip from our resident Savage guru Sharpshooter.

How do you like the CDI BM and AI mags? What's the max COAL you can get to feed reliably from the AI mag? I know they list 2.55" as max COAL which is right where I want to be. If Wyatt's would make BM for Savage I'd use them their .223 mags have a 2.85" COAL which is almost as much as the .308's.

I like the CDI Bottom Metal very much, great customer service, the ammo feeds consistently. I use 223 rem SS Accurate Mags, I did a mod to increase the COAL. At the time they were longer than any other manufacturer.
