6mm Remington Shilen Barrel on a Model 11FHNS

I'd like to have Shilen make a barrel for my Model 11FHNS in a 6mm Remington. Its currently chambered for a .243. My only concern is whether or not the Model 11 short action is long enough for a 6mm chambering. I believe the 6mm Remington is approx 2 tenths of an inch longer than a .243 case. Would this be doable? The Savage "short action" **looks** to be a little longer than most other short actions. I've read where many recommend a long action in a .270 chambering for this one. But, I'm not wanting to buy another rifle.

    Thanks,

    Mark

it will work you will just have to keep the bullets seated back, if you got a slow twist for light bullets it should be fine.

I would be most interested in shooting bullets up through about 87 grains. Thinking of around a 1:10 twist. Not concerned about the magazine.

if you use it as a single shot you will defiantly be fine.

I built mine on long action just because my old M700 short action 6mm Rem Varmint Specials would barely eject a factory 6mm Rem round. I only shot 100 gr Nosler partition bullets back then. I went with a 1:12 twist 28" Shilen. It shoot the 75 Vmax extremely well at 3600 fps. Major dent in the local coyote population. I can shoot the 87s only if I am loaded near max in the 1:12.

Luck with your 6mm Remmy. Tim

I am shooting 105gr A-max out of a 12 SA with a 1-8" McGowen PM barrel and they work just fine both as single shot and repeater. They are not being loaded short. You should have no problems with the lighter bullets
