    Plain Black Axis

Wanted just a plain old Savage Axis in 223 for a "carry around in the bush and bounce around in the truck gun." Bought a take-off barrel from a 223 Stevens, added a one piece Weaver rail, Glades Armory bolt handle, Leupold Scope....yeah I worked on the trigger a wee bit also. Since I was not going to reload for this one but just shoot the American Eagle AR-223 50gr Tipped, I set the head-space to about zero. Target dot is half-inch in diameter. Group one is top left. One minute between shots. Moved the scope right and down a bit and let the barrel cool down to outdoor temperature before group two. I think the first time out was fairly promising.

Basic black: very nice with an overall slimming effect. Look how small those groups look!

All black does have that slimming effect.
    Easy to accessorize with, too.

Maybe something in a low heel?...
'Scuse me while I whip this out...!

i agree - black is back.

the first axis hb .308 got a new boyds thumbhole in pepper, 'cause it seemed so right.

but the new axis hb .223 just looks best in basic black ...

I own 3 Axis / Edge rifles . No other budget priced rifles equal them in my opinion . Light weight , accurate and take abuse in the woods and weather . I could not expect more for what I have invested in them .
