Send it back... Or not... Loose Spot in the barrel!

This spring I picked up one of the 111 Trophy Hunter XP packages in 25-06 at a great price.

Just recently I had a chance to mess with it and see what she would do. Here's the problem. When cleaning, I detect a loose spot in the barrel a few inches above the chamber. Runs for about 1.5 inches.

Passing a tight fitting patch down the tube, it loosens up and then tightens back up for the rest of the barrel.

It shoots respectable. Running 100 grain Sierra Pro Hunters it grouped .8 to 1.2 @ 100...

So... I'm debating if I should call Savage and have them issue a call tag to pick it up and slap a new barrel on it.

Whats your thoughts on a barrel in this condition?

    Mr. Bill

I'd contact them and describe it as a bulged barrel and wouldn't mention how well it's shooting.

Little update... Called Savage and they issued a UPS label for a return shipment. Just got off the phone with them and seems their gunsmith agreed with my assesment. Funky barrel.

New barrel installed, down in finish and should be on it's way by the end of next week.

Now.. If that barrel shoots.. I'm happy. :-)
