    6x6.8 antelope

My Savage build in 6x6.8 dropped this guy at 375 yards 1st thing this morning.
A quick dial up of 3" and spin to 14x as he was trotting below me in the bottom land and I knew it was going to be at least a 300 yard shot.
A few coyote barks stopped him, turning to a nice broadside to look back. Ready w/my gun on my sticks and thwwaap.
95g nosler HBT in front of x8208.
    22", 1/9" tw 6x6.8 BHW bbl., suppressed.
Punched through him taking the top of the heart & lungs out.
Exit was about a quarter size hole.
Not the fun part...had to drag it 1/2 mile back to the truck after field dressing him.
Not big, but I don't shoot for horns I shoot for meat.

Very nice! I have never hunted pronghorn antelope - what a beautiful animal. How is the meat? I hear they are also called "speed goats". Here the goats have a distinct flavor and if the meat is not properly cared for can get nasty. Is antelope the same?

I can relate to the "hard part". I shot an axis doe a couple of weeks ago. The hike back to the truck was uphill and took me 3 hours to travel the 1/2 mile.

Yup I call em speed goats or just goats myself.
They are pretty good eating, make great hamburger meat, jerky, chili etc.
Flavor depends on area mostly, yes they smell like sage before you pull the hide off, but don't taste like they smell.
Like all game the faster you can skin them & get them cooled the better.

Very nice. What kinda velocity are you getting with the 95 gr noslers? how is this in comparison to using a 243?

Remingtonman It is on par w/my 243 with less powder.
My 243 runs at the same speed but uses 12g more powder at least if not more depending on load.
It has much less recoil, is more accurate than my stock pencil 22" bbl 243.
    My coyote load of a 55g in the 6x6.8 runs at 3675 w/32g h335, in the 243 the 55g runs at 3888 w/49g h380
Its so close IMO that the 6x6.8 has replaced the 243 which is now just a backup rig.
