Nice looking rig!! How does it shoot?
I've been wanting a lighter varmint rifle for awhile now and finally broke down and bought a LH Axis in .223 Rem to build upon. The initial plan was just to restock it with an SSS ProHunter stock that I already had and massage the trigger a bit, but that's not quite how it went. Fred wanted to trade actions so he could have a right bolt/left port configuration which would give me a left bolt/right port setup. Since it would now be apart anyway I told him to go ahead and true & time it and convert it to an AccuTrigger rather than mess with the stock trigger (us lefties don't get an AccuTrigger option on the Axis). Now that we'd already gone this far I told Fred to go ahead and flute the bolt body and see what he could come up with for a bolt handle that didn't look like a kickstand hanging off the side of the rifle like all of the aftermarket options currently being offered. Barrel is the factory 22" sporter, and for now it's wearing a Redfield Battlezone 3-9x40mm that's held in place by DNZ Hunt Masters mounts. Total weight with loaded magazine is just shy of 9.5-lbs. Not a featherlite by any means, but much nicer to carry than my 13-lb heavy barreled pig.

They who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.
You know I like a good Axis build Jim. Looks good as usual.

Looks good, Mr B.
Even if you did put the bolt on the wrong side again....
Am I understanding you correct? That's a stock made by SSS?
I'm looking for an option to Boyd's since I had 3 of them crack down the centerline between the action bolts.
'Scuse me while I whip this out...!
Yep, it's their ProHunter pattern which is a blend of a standard hunting stock and a varmint stock. Forearm is about 2-1/4" wide at it's widest point and the pistol grip is a little more vertical than a typical hunting stock, and there is less angle from the grip to the toe to allow it to ride a bag better.

Nice.
Ya got me thinking, for sure.
That can't be an Axis...there's a recoil lug on the barrel!
Looks great! I love the left bolt/right port setup. Axises seem like ideal candidates for a left-right shift if only there were a way to re-cut the ramps for the bolt lugs. It looks like Fred is the way!
Awesome looking stick. I love a good Axis build!
I hope it shoots as good as it looks. Nice job.
