Happy with my Rifle Mark II

Took my Mark II BTVSS Left handed to the range, shot at 100 yards standing position using sling, just love it.

I have a very similar setup and I love mine as well. Best shooting rimfire I've stumbled across.

I've been working with my FV SR at 50 yards for a couple of months, trying various ammo, various ways to hold on the bench, et cetera. It has been inconsistent, even with the ammo it likes (CCI standard velocity lead round nose 1070 fps) with some groups of 5 all touching and others beyond MOA, some in general and some caused by flyers.

Shooting from Caldwell bags, one day I tried placing my hand on top of the barrel just ahead of the chamber and applying some downward pressure, in an effort to control the rifle better. I got the best groups and more of them. This got me to thinking that the floating barrel on this particular rifle was resonating and needed damping.

A few days ago I took a piece of motorcycle inner tube with me to the range. After firing about forty 5-round groups, I wedged the inner tube between the end of the fore stock and the barrel. The rifle proceeded to fire groups less than MOA, with several all touching, and one was a group of 10 measuring .213 x .491.

So, don't be too taken in with the floating barrel concept. 'Tain't always so.
