    Cabela's Savage 12FV THREAD FEST

I just received the latest Cabela's flyer, which features the "Cabela's Exclusive" Savage 12FV, for $389. Does anyone know anything about this specific model? I'm looking for a relatively inexpensive heavy barrel platform for my wife and daughter to punch paper and gongs with, rather than their hunting rifles.

Same as any other model 12 just set up with a heavier barrel. Should work perfectly for what you are wanting.

I guess I'm wondering what the differences are between the 12 FV and the 12 FCV. Quite a price difference, with Cabelas being about $300 less for the FV than Buds has the FCV listed at. I've never known Cabela's to have decent prices on their firearms, with a few exceptions. The 12FV is marked as having a "Medium Heavy barrel" in the sale flyer...

Doing a quick search on Savages site and Cabelas it looks like the Cabelas version is the better of the two with the Cabelas version showing a heavier barrel. It's more than likely a Cabelas exclusive and why the difference in price.

Edit to add. It looks like the 12FCV offers the detachable mag where the Cabelas is a blind mag.

Hmmmm... I prefer the detachable mag, but think I may be making a trip to Cabela's on Friday...

And if the photo on the Cabela's site is correct, it's top bolt release.

You could probably add a new stock and the detachable mag to the Cabelas model and still come out ahead on price. A boyds stock is only $100 bucks and the parts to make it a detachable mag are only like $30. Detachable magazine is nice but I don't think it is $300 more nice.

What you just described is exactly what i did. Bought the 12 fv and re-stocked it. now i have a 600-800 yd. tack driver.

Hey Stomp, I picked one of these to rebarrel it into .450 Bushmaster for Southern Michigan hunting. Waiting on the barrel from Apache. What parts are needed to change it to a removable magazine? For $30.00 I'd rather have that.

I bought a Model 12 FV in .223 a few months ago for my son to shoot. Had to send it back for burrs in the chamber, but once it's fixed, I expect it to shoot as good as my model 12 BVSS in 223. Of course we'll have to replace the stock with a good laminate, but still not a bad price for a model 12 with it's 26 inch varmint barrel.

Don't forget to check Savage Arms website for a rebate. Could save you a bunch of cash.

$419 at my closest Cabelas. Is it a tupperware stock?

Yes, tupperware stock. It's $30.00 off here in my neck of the woods. Maybe the sale is only regional. Might give your store a call to check if you're interested.

Checked today and here in Louisville they are On sale for $389.00. All are top bolt release, centerfeed with the polymer stock. The stock has the wider forend "beavertail" style and larger barrel channel and seems to be a little nicer than some of Savages cheaper stocks.

I bought 3 12fv rigs from cabelas a several months back when they "introduced" them as new (12fv have been around for years).
They are as Rosco stated above.

What parts would be needed Stomp 442 to convert a 12FV to a detachable mag?

    Savage Rebate update:

Those 2 savage 12FV's I was so proud of? Still proud of the groups. Not so much the company. I sent the 2 rebates in, mailed the same day, received properly. I have had 1 processed so far, the other....

MIA suddenly. Pending verification. And without the original UPC im told im outta luck. But more then that I got reminded the rebate ended on June 30th so even if I had the Original UPC wouldn't do me any good even though the rifles were purchased during the rebate. Savage customer service is not there to help in anyway, if there is an issue.

The process has been extremely aggravating, and customer service has been, very formal about the situation.

The interaction has been aggravating enough that I will probably not buy another Savage rifle, in the future I will probably look to other brand offerings.

Savage makes and excellent product, and I own almost 2 dozen of their products, 7 in the last 2 years alone, but this experience has been enough to really sour me on Savage unfortunately.

2 Rifles, 2 rebates, 2 sent, 2 received, 1 processed, rebate check recieved, the other missing.

    Its pretty good rifle.

Top bolt release, slotted barrel nut, metal trigger guard, 26" varmint contour, large bolt handle... What more could you want that you can't get and add to it later?

I was actually as Cabelas picking up my new Weatherby and the sales rep pointed it out and it seems to be a company wide sale.

That is the truth... and my Black Cabelas Visa starts vibrating when I walk in the door.

Cabelas, where everything on sale is actually normal pricing anywhere else.
