    6.5x55 140gr loads

I am going to be loading for a swede with 140gr amaxs. I am looking for any starting suggestions for loads.
The barrel is a 8 twist 28" criterion bull.
I have a bunch of h4350, hopefully it makes the list!

    Thanks!

    Thomas,
The brass & primers is of little consequence. Grab any number of quality reloading manuals and start reading.

With any given powder/bullet combo, there are always at least two different accuracy nodes within published data; most just can't see the forest for the trees.
Remember that published data is Pressure tested, so when you surpass book velocity you have gone over Pressure, regardless of grains used.

From what I can tell in manuals, the loads are for old military guns, I am looking for a modern load. I think I read somewhere 60,000 psi max for modern?

I load that case in 22X55 6X55 and 6.5X55, and let me tell you it is very stout especially the Lapua cases. you right there is not much out there as far as modern load data, so I used 6.5 X 284 load data they hold the same amount of powder, the three calibers I use with this case are improved versions and have since been fireformed and hold more powder, and I have since long strayed to no mans land as far as loads and pressure goes but the original 6.5 X 284 data still applies. I don't know exactly how much pressure those Lapua cases can take before signs of pressure start to show, but it has got to be well into the 70000 psi range.

I follow you, well to be honest those aren't "modern" loads; just regular NON-American loads. Only in the states where cheap surplus actions abound are the loads low pressure.

Skip on over to Lapua's web site, they post load data there along with pressures.
