Do you use 7.62x51 nato on your 308 Win rifle?

I am planning to buy a Savage bolt action in 308, and am already buying ammo. I went to walmart this morning and bought a box of Perfecta, and the person at the counter said "do you know we have plenty of ZQi 7.62x51 nato which you can use on your gun? I replied, I will check the perfecta first...

So this is my question, do you use the NATO rounds on your 308 Win rifle?

    Thanks

Yup. I don't get quit the same accuracy as I do with loads tailored for the gun, but they work well enough.

Depends on the rifle. In my brother's M1A, I would use it in that rifle. In my target 308 rifle, I only run handloads. If I absolutely had to run 7.62, then yes I would run in the target rifle.
They who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

I have, but just as Ron said, they don't shoot the best. (One rifle does shoot them better than the other rifle, but still not brag worthy)

They work well if your looking for "minute of tannerite jar", not so much for punching one jagged hole with 5 shots.

So for the sake of honesty. Unlike the 223/5.56 NATO, the 308 & 7.62 NATO have VERY different chamber dimensions. The Nato guage can swallow the 308.
That being said, I don't know of ANY ammo that isn't made to 308 headspace specs.

I have fired MANY battle packs in my 10FP. Ball ammo isn't very accurate, as has been stated; but for cheap plinking, it didn't matter to me.
Cheap ball ammo equaled cheap brass for me.
I'm a firm believer in the theory that if it bleeds, I can kill it.

I regularly shoot milsurp 7.62 through my FCP-SR, as well as "commercial" 7.62 (for example, Prvi).

One of the reasons I wanted a .308 bolt gun was because I already had an M14-type, and I wanted ammo/reloading commonality.

I use ball ammo mostly to foul/warm the barrel, or for basic sighting in, but some of it (Lithuanian GGG, especially) shoots decently at 100yds. At 200yds+ the ball ammo isn't as consistent, and match ammo is wayyyy better.

I shoot Turkish NATO through my Savage Axis it usually shoots 1 moa if I'm doing my part. I mainly just use it if I don't have any handloads on hand plus as someone else stated it's cheap brass.
