    .45 Raptor

Stumbled across this while catching up on an Ohio hunting forum and thought it was rather interesting. It's basically the equivalent of the .460 Ruger pistol cartridge but with a standard rebated rim .473 bolt head. It was basically designed for use in an AR-10, but I'm thinking it would be a great round for a bolt gun in states like Indiana and Ohio that require a straight walled cartridge for deer gun season.

I was intrigued by that round too, but I eventually put together a rifle in 450 Bushmaster because there was ammo available, barrel makers have reamers for it, and dies can be bought off the shelf! I'd definitely consider switching if it becomes more popular.

Probably be a cool round for Ohio as would the Bushmaster. Unfortunately, neither cartridge is approved for use in Ohio for deer hunting. Here's the updated list (they added the 450 Marlin for this year) copied and pasted from the Ohio DNR Division of Wildlife page.
    Straight-walled cartridge rifles in the following calibers: .357 Magnum, .357 Maximum, .38 Special, .375 Super Magnum, .375 Winchester, .38-55, .41 Long Colt, .41 Magnum, .44 Special, .44 Magnum, .444 Marlin, .45 ACP, .45 Colt, .45 Long Colt, .45 Winchester Magnum, .45 Smith & Wesson, .450 Marlin, .454 Casull, .460 Smith & Wesson, .45-70, .45-90, .45-110, .475 Linebaugh, .50-70, .50-90, .50-100, .50-110, and .500 Smith & Wesson.
Shotguns and straight-walled cartridge rifles can be loaded with no more than three shells in the chamber and magazine combined.

Here in Michigan we can use some of the straight walled CF cartridges too but not caliber specific like Ohio. We cannot exceed 1.8" case length so the Raptor is legal here. I have built one on the AR 10 and it is a beast. Have to be a reloader or know one you can trust. When you start pushing handgun bullets to 2500 fps and above, things get interesting. I've loaded 200 gr FXT all the way up to 300 gr Deep Curls. All I can say is "bring on deer season" BTW Satern makes barrels for the Savage in the 45 Raptor.
