I have a 6x45 that I am working on load development. I have used 69gr Bergers, 90gr lapua scenars, and 95gr sierras so far. I shared some of my results in the following posting:

About 50 years ago Remington chambered the 40x rifle in a cartridge called 6x47. Yep, thats what i said.
I was the 222 mag case necked to 6mm. 223 didnt exist yet. It was fairly popular amoung varmit class bench resters.
At least untill the PPC came along.

I've been kicking around one for a while; considering building a Rem-Age feeding from a modified 223 BDL for longer cartridge OALs.

Guy on SnipersHide says he has a 20" 6x45 that gets 2600fps with 105s using 8208XBR...that gives ballistics a touch better than a comparably barreled 308/175 SMK combo with a fraction of the recoil.

I'm not sure a 105 Hybrid would work in a 223 case loaded at AICS mag length (2.500") due to its nose length, but the 105 Amax looks just about perfect for paper/steel targets and whitetail while being economical.

But during the 50s and into the 60s people like Warren Page were writing about the 222.
I seem to remember the 223 as originaly being a military round and came about in about the same time frame as the 308?

I'm shooting three or four 645's on AR's. I haven't picked up a Savage barrel yet but it is on the to do list from Black Hole. It performs out of proportion for it's size. I've shot it out to 500 in F-Class in an AR and had a good time with it.

The funny thing is it is no longer a wildcat. It was SAAMI'd on 6-18-11. The day AFTER the 6.5 Grendel, 30 AAC BLK and the 25X45 Sharps.

BTW You an push the 105's to 2650 or so with a good bolt gun. I got that out of a 24" AR but my twist rate was not fast enough at 1:9 to get it done well. The groups were large to say the least. Not battleships but not good. I will admit my testing was very limited as I see it as a 90 grain bullet round tops to start with and I personally would never go over 95. I am shooting a BHW 6X6.8 or a 243LBC if I truly want to shoot the heavy bullets but with more horsepower comes more options.

I have been shooting a 6x45 for a couple of years and am very pleased with the performance.Savage with a 26 inch shaw 1-8 twist.I built it with prairie dogs in mind but working up a load I stopped at 75 grain Sierra hp because they shot so well and with a lighter bullet like the 75 grain I still got lots of splat at longer ranges.I never tried any heavier bullets as I am happy with this weight.

Spring of 57 is when the 222 Special came around. '59 is when it was renamed to 223 Remington.
1953 is when key NATO members approved the 7.62

Went from 6x45 to 6TCU, the extra powder/speed was worth it to me. Its amazing what speeds you can get with AA2200 and the small cased 6mm's with lighter bullets.

You have been missing the boat by not having a 6x45.
I built 2 of them a while back.
55-65g bullets are your guns best pal for p-dogs to coyote.
80-95g are the same for antelope sized game
Easy shooting accurate as all get out.
Brass lasts forever like the barrels.
