    111 Flatback B Series Date

I know the forum members do not date Savage rifles at this point and i don't want to cause anyone any trouble. I read the article under FAQ's and there is no indication of date for serial numbers starting with a "B". The rifle is a flatback 111C and the serial number starts with a "B". It is the model that has the bottom metal with the detachable magazine in 30-06. I know it is an older rifle, just wondering about how old. Had to ask as this seems like an odd situation based on the information available. Thanks!

Check FAQ's for mag timeline. Those "old Style DBM's" were not made for a long period of time before center feeds were introduced.

My 111 is a "Chieftain" which was produced from 1974 to 1978. At the time it was Savages top of the line 30-06 with the walnut Monte Carlo stock and the side mag release. Serial number started with a B.

Best guess for the B's is roughly 1972-74. I have record of a Model 24V with an "A" prefix that was dated to 1971, a 110CL with a "B" prefix dated to 1973, and a Model 110 with a very low "C" prefix S/N dated to 1975. I've updated the firearm dating FAQ article accordingly.
