    Axis LA vs SA

I recently read that the action screw spacing on both the LA and SA are the exact same. Is this true? I'm looking at possibly getting a MDT Chassis system and wanted to know if this was the case?

    Thanks!

+1 All Axis Actions are technically long actions, 4.718'' for the screw spacing. The difference is in the Magazine's, mag well sizes, Triggers Guards, and bolt heads.

So does that mean that as long as you have the appropriate length magazine everything should function fine?

The Axis uses the same length action across the board, and the spacing and factory stock is the same across the board. The only differences are the magazines for short action cartridges are shorter front-to-back, and since the trigger guard extends to create the back of the mag well, the trigger guard is sized to fit the magazine.

But for the MDT, they use AICS .243 or .308 mags, so you need to be shooting one of those cartridges for it to work for you.

Front baffle is the piece directly behind the bolt head. If you look at it you'll notice with the Axis one side is a little shorter than the other. This was done so that you can just rotate it for either short action or long action requirements.

I do not believe the MDT does their chassis for the Axis in a long action variant though. So you would be restricted to the 308 family of cartridge choices.

With the action screw spacing being the same between LA and SA would they not both fit in the chassis? Is the magazine and feeding the issue? Or is there another nuance that I'm missing?

if they're set up for a short action magazine, you can't use a LA mag. you would have to single feed long action rounds.

so its a mag well issue with the MDT Design. Got it. Not that the action wouldn't fit, but that they only fit short action mags. Thanks for the heads up.

I was wondering if they would have designed the chassis to be more like the Dessert Tech chassis that would take both size magazines. Thanks for the input!

where can I buy either a 308 bolt (entire) or find the replacement bolt faces. A quick google search didn't do much for me.

Also you can start a thread in the WTB section of the classifieds. I would think someone would have a complet spare one for sale.
