    CDI DBM has arrived!

I just bolted together my Boyd's stock that CDI inletted for their new DBM. It looks and functions great. FINALLY getting rid of that cheesy stock magazine setup could make this my favorite rifle. Both MDT and Alpha mags drop free, and are easy to insert. Now I just need to open the barrel channel a bit more, then finish pillar bedding. (Then shoot!)

CDI has been awesome to deal with. Customer service was top notch and friendly, turn around was about 2 weeks. To top it all off, they upgraded my trigger guard to a metal one free of charge. Thanks Jeff and Pam!

Fantastic looking rig! I'm now strongly considering at least one of these conversions on my rifles.

I am very happy with my CDIs.

Just need to make a custom sear to have the bolt release better.

    Love the stock colors.

It was one of those moments, I was fed up with the junk Axis magazine and did a bunch of measuring and was absolutely going to order the closest CDI DBM and reconfigure to fit the Axis (it's just aluminum...) I had been to their site just a week prior. Lo' and behold... There it was. Awesome. I have one one my HogHunter (308) and it's great. This version looks to be just as well thought out. I did not have the same issues as Rosco, with MDT magazine, if I pushed the mag in as HARD as possible while working the bolt it barely hits, but under normal operation (in the living room), it never has missed a beat. Hopefully I can get this thing bedded within the next week, and see if all my hair brained modifications make this into a shooter..

Nice looking rifle. I just sent the same stock to CDI for their bottom metal. What make and profile is that barrel? How much did you have to open the barrel channel? It looks pretty beefy.

CavRecon, I had to sand quite a bit out. The barrel profile now is 1.25". I had wanted a straight jacket barrel system since it first surfaced, but the price has continued to escalate. The website now says $849 for a titanium jacket!!! There is no way I am going to spend that kind of money on it. SO... I decided to make my own. It too is titanium, and all told cost me under a hundred bucks. But to answer your question, deep inside resides the stock Axis SR pencil barrel. I became a paid member of this site to access the classifieds to find that particular barrel. But never found one, so I bought the Axis and started. I think my theory is sound. Can't wait to see if it works.

Sure I understand I was interested in their system too until I saw the cost. Reason I ask is I am getting ready to rebarrel my Axis, and I was pretty sure your profile was much larger in diameter than the varmint profile i was looking at. That is a great looking rifle, if it shoots at all like it looks it will be amazing. Primary Arms or Falcon scope?

It's a Primary Arms with the ACSS bdc. I also have the Pride Fowler 3-12x42 Rapid Reticle, which is supposed to be a better scope (more expensive). I think I prefer the Primary Arms reticle, it's busy, but I like the multiple ranging options (mildot, 18" brackets, 9" circle, and 36" verticals) it seems more intuitive and for what it's worth is marked to 1000, while the PFI reticle is marked to 900.

I think the straightjacket makes sense, but I can't believe how much their cost has skyrocketed. I think way back when they offered it for $249 or something close. $849 is more than I can justify. I spent considerable time researching what possibly could be their "proprietary media", I have read every article, every discussion Google could find. Interestingly enough, there is conflicting information regarding the "secret" stuff. But I'm confident that my concoction will work.

Beautiful rifle. Can't wait to see how she shoots. Thinking of sending my Boyd's stock to CDI for their new DBM. I really want more capacity, but I'm on the fence about the "tactical" looking mag hanging out the bottom of my old style stock.

Here is my crude cut and paste. Does this ruin the lines of the rifle? I'm about 75% ready to contact them and ship it off.

What magazine do you have? It looks much better than the plastic one on their web page.
You know what I like best about people? Their dogs.

Tactical, schmatical. I wasn't concerned too much in the looks (although I think it looks good), my main concern was doing away with that junk stock magazine setup. I don't plan on doing sustained fire drills or anything silly, but I do want to be confident in my rifle, I wasn't before. As for your setup, the mag and classic stock may clash a bit and I'm sure some would hate it, but it is yours! The magazine is an Alpha Industries mag, it's nice (and should be for the price they want...$60)

ALSO: I am dragging this to the range this morning. Hopefully I will have a good results to report.

that is a very cool mod and looking rifle. i just sent email to jeff/pam about a dbm and 10 round mag for a forthcoming boyd thumbhole varmint stock. i've got an axis hb .308 win that needs some mod love, too.

it sounds like all i need to do is send cdi the stock and they'll do the rest.

Congrats! I saw your original post when doing a google search on magazine options for the Axis. I sent my Boyd's stock to Jeff and Pam on 6/29 and had to opportunity last week to stop by their shop while on vacation in FL to meet them and pick-up my stock. They were a pleasure to deal with and would highly recommend them as you have. Not to hijack your thread but here is a picture of my Savage Axis in .308 w/their bottom metal.

Mike, that's a sweet looking setup! I hope you get to shoot it soon and post a report (with pics!).

Thanks! The rings are a cheap set I had in my spare parts bin, going to pick-up a better set tomorrow and hopefully head to the range. I'll start a new thread and post results.

I was looking into it a bit and just want to make sure I got this right.

It's an M24 style bottom metal correct? Only could find a couple manufacturers for the mags, and the cheapest seams to be the MDT mag CDI lists for 40 bucks.

Doodedge, any AICS pattern mag will fit (Accuracy International Chassis System). Magpul is allegedly releasing an AICS mag but I've yet to see them. I think the ETA was early summer, but summer is about over! I think the msrp is supposed to be $29. We'll see. (Maybe!)

It's still considerably cheaper than AICS or clone mags

How much are the MDT 308 mags? Their 223 mags are $40.

The .308 are $40 too. Jeff has them in stock if you want to get one along with the bottom metal.
