LNIB Savage Model 12 VSS .223

    Hi All,

I'm new to precision rifle shooting & have a couple of questions.

I just purchased a LNIB Savage Model 12 VSS .23 with a Choate stock from the factory.

    I am looking for a good replacement stock.............B & C, H-S Precision etc.

Are the wood laminate stocks better than the composite stocks for precision shooting?

    Thanks,
    John

The laminate would be my choice. Extremely dense compared to composites. stronger fore-ends in most cases that prevent your fore-end from slapping the bbl. when firing. Check Stocky's stocks for pre-finished models with aluminum bedding blocks. Or, get one from Boyds and bed/finish yourself. If I got a composite I wouldn't settle for anything less than a Mcmillan. Rarely do I see a precision shooter with a composite stock. Tactical yes. Harmonics is the cited reason for the wood preference.
The Dunning-Kruger effect is alive and well.
