    First Savage

Hello everyone, first time poster and my first savage rifle. Rifle is a model 10, predator max 1 in 243 win, with a leupold VX-2 6x18x40 scope. Loaded up some 87 gr hornady Vmax over H4350 powder and headed to the range today for some testing. Didn't follow much of a break in procedure but I did clean the barrel between every 5 shot group with Barnes CR10. Out of the 6 text groups fired today none were over an inch! Most were .750" and under. I would imagine this will get nothing but better seeing how these were the first rounds down the tube and the first powder/bullet combo I have tried. Needless to say I'm very impressed with my first savage!!!

first picture was at 40. Grains. Second was 42.5
Ran out of daylight before I could shoot remaining test loads.

Nice, were you shooting off bags? With just a bipod and my shoulder I can't match that for repeatability.

I was shooting off a sled, I usually use it during the load development process. After I find my load I usually zero off the bipod though.

Hi scooter, I live in the spring hill area off of chestnut street. You are pretty close to me! I actually hunt a property not far from the Milton exit, near Hannah highschool. We will have to get together sometime and do some shooting.

Sounds good to me! but when we shoot......you gotta stop by Spring Hill Bakery and pick up some their hot dogs! Lol. Funny you hunt near HHS, my dad and I lease a farm, just a little ways past there.

Im a member at the range in Eleanor if you would like to get together and shoot sometime. The range goes to 400, you could stretch your rifle out a little. If you really want to stretch it out Ive got a place in Wyoming county we can shoot too.
Hot dogs will be required for either place lol

That sounds great, and it gives me another excuse to hit the bakery lol! It's tough to find a place to stretch out and shoot any distance at all around here. I had permission up until recently to shoot on an abandoned strip mine in Boone county.

Any excuse is good to go to the bakery. Tell me about it, seems nearly impossible to get any kinda distance around here. The place in Wyoming county is an old strip job. You can shoot forever up(down) there....you can get a mile pretty easy.
Pm me what kinda schedule you have sometime, and we can try to get together and sling some lead.

After a little load development with my first Savage this was by best 3 shot group. Its easy to measure when its only one hole!!! I love this rifle
Its a Savage 10 fcp in a HS precision stock. the load is 43 grains of RL 15 behind a 175 grain SMK, in federal brass, CCI br primer, with a 2.78 OAL.

Man those predators just keep looking better and better to me. Okay so I need a .243 predator, .260 LRP .223 hog hunter, .308 10 Mcmillen and a 110 BA in 300 win and ill be good, for a little then I want to do a bunch of barrel nut stuff with 7mm08, .204 and 22-250...... Any donations?
