soon to be a range report....

so after pricing everything i needed to go 6x47L i decided to go with another 260 barrel...for now...i really wanted to go 6x47 lapua but just dont have the money this year so its going to have to wait. also this is a CBI barrel and will be the first barrel other than shilen that ive ever shot....i was reluctant to go with anything but shilen as every shilen barrel ive had has been a hammer...but thought maybe its time for a change plus i see a few guys at our matches shoot the CBIs and they shoot well and shilens prices have gotten pretty high...the shilen barrel i just got was $485 this barrel from Jim was $362...so we will see if the extra $123 bucks makes a difference.

gotta love Jim and Brenda...ordered 5/21 and got it yesterday....at first look this is a VERY nice barrel and the bore looks like a mirror and the crown is flawless...if it shoots half as good as it looks i will be happy.....

ive never shot a barrel under 26" or over 28" and have always thought about a 30" barrel so here it is....

head spaced and ready to torque...normally i go 25fps on the nut but went 35fps on this one because of the length and the weight....another thing i noticed right off the bat was that the treads were a tighter fit than what im use to.the action was nice and tight with very minimal slop...

all back together and ready for a test drive this saturday...

i told you guys i really like the talons and was going to put a set on this rifle....

ill get out saturday and find what it likes and fine tune it sunday and post a range report and my thoughts about the CBI barrel.

Just to fuel your expectations a little, my shooting partner received his CBI in 6.5 Creedmoor from Jim a couple of weeks ago. We shot it a little yesterday getting a a three shot .95" C to C at 300 yds. He fired the first two shots and I shot the third. This with factory 120 gr AMax....we're just making brass for future reloading. Barrel now has 21 rounds through it, so we are pretty happy to this point. Really looking forward to trying the 140's.

thats good to hear...im going to shoot some 123g Amaxes...which shot great when i played with them a little in a barrel that had 2900 rounds through it...also going to shoot some 123g SMKs....and the bullets i love to hate...the 140g hornady match...which ive NEVER had any luck with in 4 barrels but keep trying because they are cheap and im a glutton for punishment.

Nice looking set up... can't wait to see how it shoots. My .260 is still sitting awaiting glass to show up... I'm about to "borrow" the tasco off my kid's rascal for a range outing; although I hate to waste ammo sighting in a scope just to replace it in a few weeks just in the name of shooting a ladder test

That's one way to make sure you have brass to reload......

BTW, you might just as well send that barrel to me so I can give it a proper burial, it'll never shoot straight.....

barrel is sold pending funds but you can have the next one LOL.

i did spend 3 hours last night preping a 100pcs of new lapua brass for this new barrel it just needs to be tumbled dried and neck sized and its ready to load...my big dilemma right now is i have an 8lb jug of norma MRP that ive loaded 10 rounds out of and it showed promising groups with great velocities...or do i just go right to the go to loads i know should make this barrel shoot.

well...lets put it this way...i shot 3300 rounds through the first barrel on this rifle...i found a load in the first 50 rounds that i shot at matches so id guess 2200 or so of those rounds was testing other powders, primers and bullets...i have data on 600 rounds fired doing testing on primers that might surprise you.

im funny like that...once something is working im bored and either move on or try to improve it...so i guess ill go with the new fish finder LOL!!

LMAO...my problem is i cant leave well enough alone!!

actually my problem is i dont believe most of what i read(and depending on who im talking to)less of what i hear....hence the reason i basically shot out 2 barrels and wore out a chrony testing primers, powders and brass...i like to KNOW how things work.

Noob question but how did you know what size to get to make sure it was a good fit? Take calipers to the inside of the action?
