Shot some 338-06 with some 250 gr RL17 loads today.

    No chrono data yet.
The chrono is at the farm so I wont be able to chrono these loads until later this week.
These were just 1st loads looking for a max.
I will hopefully chrono them later this week.

    160 gr TTSX 56gr start - 59gr max of H4895.
No brass flow, normal bolt lift, pretty flat primers.
QL says this should be running at 3150-3200 at 61K

My old 338-284 160 gr TTSX load was 58 gr of H4895, chronoed at 3050 out of a 19" barrel.
with 1.5 gr less case capacity.

    250 gr Gameking 51gr start - 56gr max of RL17
    Never loaded RL17 before.
No brass flow, normal bolt lift, pretty flat primers.
QL says this should be running at about 2600-2650 at 63k
This is a really stout load and felt like it.

A typical factory 338 win mag load 250 gr is about 2600-2700 fps

All new resized win 30-06 brass to 338-06.
    24" A+B barrel.

Good report. I will be curious to see the chrono numbers when they are available. I am considering reaming mine out to 338/375 Ruger because I really want to be able to shoot 225gr ABs at 2700+ fps but haven't been able to do it safely yet with any of the powders that I've tried. Maybe I'll give RL17 a try.

Re: Shot some 338-06 with some 250 gr RL17 loads today.

I would imagine you could get 2700 fps out of a 225 gr accubond.
RL17, from the little I know, works well with heavy and long bullets like Barnes.
The 225 gr accubond it a pretty long bullet, so it should give it a boost.

Just going strictly by the quickload numbers, 24" barrel, I get 2700 fps with 57 gr of reloader 17.
That is at 63K, but I would suspect you would get more than that. Probably more like 2750 or so.

338 is an efficient bullet going down the barrel.
With the 160 gr TTSX in my 338-284 I had to add 5" to my 19" barrel length
to get the chrono numbers to match.

The longer heavier bullets not quite so, but I still had to add 2.5-3" to get those to match.

It seems Neco does not quite have the RL17 algorithems 100% yet for some cartridges,
IE it shows high pressure early in some loads like in the 308 and 243.

With the 250 gr loads I shot today, it seemed close to correct, but from what I understand you can keep on pushing this powder
quite a ways before you start seeing serious high pressure signs like brass flow and whatnot..
