so i'm still on the fence about switching out my stock to a boyds pro varmint stock.
is there a definite increase in accuracy?
they are now offering an adjustable comb for $60 more,is that something anybody would want to have?
the reason i am still on the fence is price.total to canada is working out to $300+,that's a decent chunk of change towards another rifle or reloading supplies.
i just want to make sure it will make a $300 difference in my groupings.lol
Can't remember the gentleman's name on here, but he was making and selling Axis stocks up in Canada. Maybe someone else will remember his username and/or you can try digging around in the early posts in this board to find the posts that he detailed how he was building them.

Blink, my Axis ProVarmint is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow, and I did spring for the adjustable cheek piece. I let you know how it is. My other ProVarmint (Tacticool at the time) was a bit low for me for a perfect cheek weld. I also sprung for a color laminate, as I still believe (IMHO) the plain painted Tacticool was a softer laminate. I really do like the shape and feel of the stock. I hope this helps.
I had planed on getting the cut out in coyote laminate.
Great minds think alike! I ordered the coyote lam. I really can't explain why, other than I wanted something different. (I hope it's not too gaudy in person...)

Still in the process of working through everything, but even without the barrel completely free floated and no pillars or bedding, it is a sub-moa shooter about %85 of the time and <.5 MOA about 40% of those out to 200yds. The Monte Carlo style stock is nice as I don't even need a stock pack to get the proper site picture. You can see a range report in the "At the Range" section as well.

Pics as promised. I am very happy with the stock, the fit and finish is nice. The barrel is not quite centered in the barrel channel but I plan to pillar bed so I should be able to take care of that. The adjustable cheek piece is done well, although I was surprised to see that the adjustment is through the top. I was picturing a side screw like a KMW Loggerhead. It works well, and seems sturdy. I will post a close up...

When I bought my Boyds stock I was not impressed with the inletting and supplied pillars . I had my brother in law put in full pillars and reinforced the inletting and bedded it . The gun is very consistent from shot to shot now . It shot good with the original stock but know it shoots moa all the time if I do everything right from a rest setup . It's a varmint rig and it's sighted at 200 yards with Hornady V Max .

I'm hoping my 2nd try at getting a stock from them turns out that well. Their first one sent me didn't look nearly as as sharp and flawless as yours. You can tell someone took pride in making your stock.

my only regret is not getting the color lam for my previous purchase. The difference between this stock and the plain (then) Tacticool is huge. I've obsessively complained on here before, but this new stock just reinforces my position. The painted lam of the Tacticool is soft, in fact soft enough I can push my thumbnail into the lam. So without a doubt it was fully glass bedded and pillared, as it had the dreaded "crack" after I torqued it in the very first time. This stock came with a prominent warning label that says damage can occur after 35 inch pounds. This stock seems much more inline with the Boyd's of old. I hope they keep up the good work.
My stock ordered was exactly what you have, but in pepper lam, and without the cheek piece. It wasn't what I'd be proud to sell if I was running the company and I'm hoping their 2nd attempt is better. I've seen so many of theirs that look great, and done right, that the one they sent me was a bit of a shock. I'm still hopeful that they'll come through for me.

They sell 1000's of stocks and I hear great reports tons more than issues. Mine just snuck through QC, but they're making an effort to improve the situation. I'll let you know how it turns out if you'd like.

You're waiting??? I am tired of waiting. I've been scheming this build for over a year! I'll post pics when done. All parts (except brake) are inbound. Stay tuned...
UPDATE: I stated earlier that my barrel wasn't centered in the barrel channel. I've been studying this stock, with the laminate plys it's pretty easy to see misalignments in the inletting. It's perfect...? So last night I awoke with an epiphany, it's not the stock, ITS THE LUG. So this morning I disassembled the stock and looked down the plys and sure enough, the Boyd supplied lug was indeed off to the right. What would have been an easy fix was compounded by Boyd using what looks like cyanoacrylate glue. Wow, was that thing glued in! I tried muscling it, I tried running a utility knife blade beside it. Nothing worked. I then found a Bic lighter and heated that little bugger up. Once it was hot, I got it to wiggle with pliers, reheated and it popped right out. To verify my theory, I reassembled without the recoil lug. It went together FAR easier, AND presto! The barrel is exactly in the middle. Looks like a bedding job in the near future.
Blue, I really like Boyds' stocks, and, for the money, I don't think they can be beat. In my mind, they are a great stock that simply needs more work to make them "complete". Having said that, if they installed the recoil lug wrong, I would expect them to correct it or offer some compensation. That is clearly defective workmanship. They intend to offer better products than that. Now, it also might not be worth the hassle. I might agree with that sentiment, as well. If it were me, I'd ask for compensation / adjustment in price then fix it myself... remove it, as you did, relieve the area, bed it with Acraglass in its proper place then bed the action with Devcon 10110. Just my $.02
Foxx, to me it's not worth the hassle. I did chuckle to myself when I theorized that the inletting and shaping was all computer controlled, and the one thing a human was responsible for, gluing in this lug, they screwed it up. "You had ONE job." Lol. I am waiting to hear from CDI to send this stock in for their new (awesome) DBM, so I won't bed it until I get that done.

as far as groups it improved a little where it shines over the composite stock is those weird shooting positions I seem to find myself in when hunting. Off the bench i still pull the front bag pretty far back more out of habit and comfort.

will be getting the pro varmint in coyote lam and thanks bluedog for the heads up on the lug issue,maybe all the issues with misalignment being talked about is all in the lug.
