bolt body threads

I manage to mess up the threads in the back of the bolt body where the bolt assembly screw threads in. What size threads are these? Can i just chase them with a tap to clean them up? I think I damaged the assembly screw too, but could probably be cleaned up with a die.

I think they are 1/2x28

They are 1/2-28, but the bolt body is also case hardened, so it would be kinda hard on the tap.
