Depending on scope you may not have to have a 20moa but its a good idea to start with one so you know you will have plenty.

ehhhhh..... Not NEARLY enough info given to give you a proper answer.

It *SOUNDS* like you are shooting targets/match stuff, yes? Well, here in my conditions(@1,000' ele):
175 SMK, launched at 2557fps; with a 100 yard zero, 600 yards needs 4.9 mil (40.4 moa) correction.

Remember that whatever scope you are looking at, the listed adjustment range is likely to be AT LEAST cut in half. that adjustment is total. Few of us are lucky enought to be zeroed from optically centered. My PA and Weaver scopes can easily adjust that far without need for a canted base; but we don't know what you are using.

    .
darker you need an new chrony. Either your speeds are way off or you ae trying to get to 1000 yards. He said his range is 600 yards which you got right but adjustment from 100 yards is only about 17.75 MOA running 2500fps not 40 MOA and that is at 250ft elevation.

May be that your math is just wrong. 4.9 (number of mils) x 3.6 (1 mil in moa) = 17.64

That sounds closer.....to get to a 1K it will take about 22 moa. on top of that.

Fred, at 2750 with the non-tipped 175mk it will take almost 30 minutes of adjustment from a 100 yard zero to get to 1000 yards. Not 22 minutes

Sorry Fred i read that wrong. Your right, between 17-22 depending on how hard they are being pushed.

Yeah, sorry, had the correct Mil value, but looked at the MOA for the 1K mark.

    From a 100y zero, .308's will need 13-16 MOA at 600y and 36-40 MOA at 1k

If you don't intend to shoot beyond 800y you probably won't need a tapered base.
