Hello all,
Kinda' new here. Great forum! Been learning a great deal about the only Savage I own, a model 11 in .260 Remington.
I'm starting work on a switch-barrel project tho....
I am planning on purchasing a 24" barrel chambered for the 5.7mm Johnson/.22 Spitfire (.30 carbine necked down to .224) from Apache... standard factory contour, 1/14" twist. I already own a few 5.7 Johnsons based on the M1 carbine platform, two of which I converted myself. I really like this round. Neat cartridge, but the M1 carbine is not conducive to accuracy.

My question: Has anyone here made this conversion on a Savage short action before? I'm looking to avoid any obvious mistakes.
I know I will have to change my bolt head to the .204/.223 size as I now have it chambered in .260 (another great round).

Lastly...I already have a .22-250 and a .223, both of which will shoot 1/2" groups easily. I've also got a .22 hornet. Not as accurate, but still one of my favorites. Not looking for suggestions for a "better round". I already own some.
Any suggestions at all on my upcoming 5.7 Johnson conversion is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
