    Ireco-85 powder

A while back, I was given a sealed can of Ireco-85 powder, which I intended to use to load 300 win mag for my 110C. There was a mythical pdf file of loading data for Ireco-85 floating around which I couldn't locate, so the only loading data I had was some listed on the outside of the can, which listed the load for a 180 grain bullet as 84-86 grains. I loaded some at the light end of the scale and took them out to test.

They were really hot, so I broke the remaining rounds down.

So, this morning someone emailed me the pdf of data. The starting load in the pdf is a full ten grains lower than the starting load listed on the can. The max load listed on the can was listed as "blowing primers" in the pdf. This matches pretty well with my experience. No wonder my loads were hot.

Time to try it again, using the pdf data.

They have no offerings, since they were purchased by Dyno-Nobel and no longer exist.

Pathfinder might I suggest depending on the age of that powder open can and spread on the garden for fertilizer, then go out and get yourself some fresh powder and go by a recent loading manual for load development. $20 for lb. of powder is well worth the safety factor to you and those sitting around you.
