FNG needs help with a Choate Tactical stock fittment on 10fp

Fellas I just got in the Choate tactical stock and tried to put it on. I'm having a few issues one is cosmetic. The rear tang has a 1/16 to 1/8 gap between it and the stock, is this normal? Then more importantly after I tighten the action screws down I CAN NOT pull the trigger to fire the rifle. I have an older 10fp pre-accutrigger and have the 4.275 spacing which is what the invoice said the stock is for. For you guys that have this stock did you have to trim the stock in any way for proper fitment and trigger function. I can see where I can take some material off the stock for the trigger to work but as far as getting the tang to sit, I think I may have to shave a little off the aluminum bedding blocks, which right now does not appeal to me.

The tang should float. That is just fine. The bottom of the action is resting on the vblock allowing the tang to float. That is exactly what you want. Don't even worry about it. As for the trigger that is hard to say. I'd look real close and see if you can tell if the stock is making contact and blocking the trigger. Whatever you do don't go grinding on the bedding block. If that is your issue then you might be better off sending it back. My Choate tactical actually was making contact with the tang and I had to remove a little material. You'll love it once the kinks are worked out.

Ok thanks on the heads up with the tang, I can sleep tonight. Now on with to the trigger. I you look at my pic the A shows you where I think the front of the trigger is making contact with the stock and that where I plan on shaving off some material. B looks like where the CNC machine started to make a cut but never went all the way across. l look at the factory stock and you can see that there in much less material there near the action screw and what would be the front of the trigger. What do you think?

Looks like that could be an issue. You might try using some white crayon or something on the trigger where you think it is making contact with the stock. Set the action in and give it a try then pull it out and see if anything transferred. It doesn't look like you'd hurt anything by removing a little material in that area at all. You aren't messing with anything that will hurt the bedding.

I have several Choate stocks,and all of them work great out of the box. I did have to send the 110FLP Tactical stock back to Choate to get fixed,it was made for a Staggered feed magazine and mine is a Center feed.They just had to notch out a groove in the bedding block for the magazine retaining clip.
If you are having problems with yours,give Fred Choate a call.He's a great person,and will do whatever he can to help you and fix the problem.

Yep give Fred a call unless you are 100% on what is going on. Might be worth a couple minutes of your time making a call before you modify it and they won't help you. Your pics are pretty good maybe he could take a look. I'd take a look at mine for ya but after the groups that rifle has been posting I'm not touching it unless I'm sending rounds down range.

I contacted the folks at Choate and they were more than willing to send me another one 2nd day. I told them that I could try to dremel off what I thought to be the problem to save them pickup and return shipping. They said go ahead and it wouldn't affect my warranty. I tried and the trigger still was binding so I'm just going to go ahead and return it. So +1 for Choates customer service.

i got the same stock but made for long actioned rifles. i'm doing a .300 win.mag build myself. man they do look great for $250 don't they!!

I'd be looking at the LA if it was centerfeed and had DBM. Maybe they will get around to it. $250 seems a little step though. You should be able to find it for about $60 - 70 less.

I'd send it back before you do any cutting and let them send you a new one. My friend got drap from them after he cut his reguardless. His Block was canted in the mold nothing could be done to make it fit, his barrel would have stuck out the middle of the forend thickness wise.
The one they sent him a month later fit fantastic. I'd send it back.
