Taking off top rail on 10ba

Was simply thinking about removing the top rail on my CM 10ba and replacing it with a regular on piece 20 moa rail to cut down on weight. Is there anything wrong with doing that? I was contemplating changing to a whole new chassis system and very well may but if taking off the top rail gets me to a better weight then that opens the door to just leaving things as they would be at that moment. I am planning on having this one on the side as a backup to competition and it is way heavy with all that metal on it. Of course I do like the looks of the whole fore end but it really serves no purpose at all. I find when looking at chassis systems I am willing to pay 2 or 3 hundred more for a complete fore arm instead of just a half only for aesthetics.

So a second question would be, in addition to whether its fine to take it off and leave it off; i.e. no structural integrity issues. Do you pay for the complete fore arm or just skip it and reasons for you answer.

It can be removed as it really doesn't serve any purpose other than as a rail. It's more just to provide that tacticool look for fore end mounting NV or flashlights or whatever.

I'd look into alternative chassis systems, especially if you're wanting to cut down on weight and it for comps. Tha BA chassis was certainly not manufactured with weight savings in mind, or that it would be dragged around the field in tactical shooting situations / less than ideal conditions. Look into something simpler, like McMillan or something along those lines. It's going to give you much better maneuverability and won't be as bulky. There are plenty of other options as well, but ti really just comes down to personal preference at that point.

The first thing I would do if I ever got a BA is remove that metal hanging all over it........I would probably try selling the chassis and replacing it with an MPA BA if I wanted the NV mount up front. I much prefer the refined look and wealth of features of that Chassis.

    Some good advice already.....

If want full surround up front and you are willing to spend some money the MDT Tac-21 would make a big improvement over the BA Chassis in my view. You could sell the BA and just keep the magazine to offset the cost of the Tac-21.

Considering the chambering and its modest recoil (CM means 6.5 Creedmoor, right?) if you want something light but without losing the chassis format, consider the MDT LSS-XL and a lightweight telescoping AR-15 stock with a mushy recoil pad on it. Keep your original chassis for when you want a heavy rig or sell it.

Or even lighter if you don't feel the need for the longer fore-end the LSS

Another question. On the PRS but stocks, there is a very shallow "thing" that looks like a flush cup but its too shallow to use. Im wanting to install a qd push button cup on the stock since that one wont work. Is there a qd attachment that does work in that? or do I just have to order the one that mounts back by the adjustment wheel?
