Smallbore Silhouette 22LR Rimfire Match 2015 (Reno NV)

The PVGC smallbore silhouette rimfire match is designed for all shooter skill levels, and features NRA hunter pistol targets engaged at four separate distances in three shooting positions. This match will teach shooters: firearm safety, proper range etiquette, and basic marksmanship skills. The course of fire will be challenging enough to promote growth, and enable graduation into other match disciplines. This squaded individual match is ideal for any pellet and rimfire rifle or pistol, typically in .22 LR. Shooters may compete in the class that best suits their equipment, and enter up to two guns when permitted.
Matches take place in Reno, Nevada. Please check our event schedule for match/practice dates, or read or match description for full event details. Scores in each division are posted on our match results page.

No worries, I just made that post a few minutes ago as I had tasked someone else to do it earlier in the week and they hadn't gotten around to it yet.

The first smallbore silhoutte rimfire match of 2015 was filled with fun, excitement, and lots of wind. True to Nevada spring weather, it can be warm, sunny, and windy – just pick any two. In spite of a steady gust that came up with the sun, almost everyone seemed to find their footing and score well enough to be ranked for their next match.
With plenty of competitors present for today’s early season event these matches are clearly very popular with shooters. In an effort to complete the event in a timely manner, early practice will be the only time for sight-in before the match begins. Future matches could also be limited to 24 shooters maximum, with PVGC members receiving first consideration.
The next match is scheduled for Saturday, April 25th. Arrive by 8AM for early practice, or by 9AM for the match.

Today was a reminder of the old saying: April showers bring May flowers. It was a cold, wet, windy, muddy mess from the start of the day, but by mid-morning the rain had moved on and the sun made an brief appearance. Steady wind challenged shooters nearly all day long, then calmed just in time for awards. Weather conditions were difficult, but not impossible.
In spite of miserable morning weather we still had sixteen shooters present to compete in the second match of the season, and scores were relatively high considering the ever-changing conditions. Today also proved we could shoot this match using only a pair of swinging targets and spotting scopes, which opens possibilities for future games.
Early practice will be the only time for sight-in shooting before the match begins. Future matches may be limited to 24 shooters maximum, with PVGC members receiving first consideration during registration. The next smallbore silhouette rimfire match is Saturday, May 30th. Arrive by 8AM for early practice, or by 9AM for the match.

It was such a beautiful day, we could not have asked for better conditions! Although turnout allowed a few shooters to utilize our ‘second gun’ rule, it didn’t seem to help their efforts. In at least one case the shooter was faced with turning adjustments clockwise for one rifle, and counter-clockwise for the other. We’ll see how many people take their chances with a second gun at future events.
Speaking of future events, we’ve only got four matches and a practice remaining for this season. If you missed this event (and perfect weather), the next smallbore silhouette rimfire match is Saturday, June 27th. I won’t be at the next match due to travel plans, but some familiar faces will still be there shooting for a chance at the blue ribbon.

Summer is definitely here in full force, as temperatures reached 96°F (in the shade) during the match. Many shooters, myself included, worked against the heat to keep on target. Wind was nothing more than a refreshing breeze, so scores were relatively unfazed. A few shooters utilized our new ‘second gun’ rule, allowing them to compete in two separate classes. If you missed this event, the next smallbore silhouette rimfire match is Saturday, July 25th. Early practice is the only time for sight-in shooting before the match begins. Arrive by 8AM for early practice, or by 9AM for the match.

The weather was warm and comfortable for our late-July match, and the wind remained relatively absent for most of the day. These ideal conditions allowed many shooters to score into higher difficulty levels for their next match. The next smallbore silhouette rimfire match is Saturday, August 29th. Arrive by 8AM for early practice shooting before competition begins, or by 9AM for the match. We hope to see you there!

The next two weekends should be great for shooting! This coming Saturday (8/22) we’ve got our first Smallbore Hunter Pistol match, which will run concurrently with an ‘extra’ Smallbore Silhouette rifle match/practice. You can use your own gear, or use one of the many .22LR rimfire pistols (and rifles) we’ll have available for loan. Get there by 8am for early practice, or by 9am for either match. Then, on the next Saturday (8/29) we’ll go back to our usual Smallbore Silhouette rifle-only match at 8/9am. The weather should be absolutely perfect, so pack some snacks and plan to attend!

The weather forecast called for warm temperatures and beautiful skies, with constant 20 MPH winds and 40 MPH gusts into the afternoon. Scores were significantly impacted by the added challenge of shooting while being stirred about the firing line, but the warm conditions helped make for a very enjoyable day of shooting. We were glad to have a few newcomers join us all the way from Tracy, California, who each had identical scores heading into the final relay to help create some friendly competition. I’m sure everyone is looking forward to perfect conditions for the next match, because scores were close!

The September match has been cancelled, so our last and final Smallbore Silhouette Rimfire event of the season is on Saturday 10/31. We will use the heavy-weight targets again, since they work so well in the wind. Please arrive by 8AM for early practice shooting, or by 9AM for the match. Let's finish the season with a bang!

    Hello Shooters:

This coming Saturday 10/31 is the last and final smallbore silhouette rimfire match of the season! Early practice shooting starts at 8am, and the match begins promptly at 9am. Juniors (12 and under) shoot free at this event. If you would like to borrow a rifle that’s dialed-in for the course, they will be available. The weather is supposed to be clear and cool with very little wind, so it should be a very nice day for shooting. I hope to see you there!

It was smiles all-around for the second season finale, as the weather was cool but not cold and improved to warm but not hot. Scores reflected the beautiful conditions, and both metallic and magnified classes enjoyed a very calm breeze that lasted until the final relay. This was good news for the twelve shooters competing at the master class level, where half the match is fired from the standing position. New difficulty levels were earned, which should make next season very exciting!

Thank you to everyone who has participated in our smallbore silhouette rimfire matches, but most especially to those few people who show up early every match to help set-up and stay late to help put everything away. These events are fueled by your efforts, and clearly you’ve helped to make them fun and enjoyable. I’m happy to see this event grow so quickly, and look forward to our first match next season: 26 March 2016. See you then!
