That's the only way I can get it done here , smith says not enough barrel for the round, liability reasons he won't install a 300 on a Ss, he told me go ahead but he won't. So I'm kinda in a spot

Doesn't make much sense. I've had a 338 Edge done in a small shank, varmint contour. Don't know why a 300 RUM would be an issue.

The barrel thickness and diameter of they action is not the weakest link, it is actually the bolt face and even that can take a pounding, I have 12 different calibers
based on the RUM From 6mm to all the way to 458 and some are screwed on to a Stevens 200s action, and I don't take no prisoners when I load, and yet here I am typing away, you are making to much of this, just screw on a barrel and watch for pressure signs and you will be fine.

RUMs are like woman in Stiletto heals, you know they are going to put you in the poor house, but that has never stopped anyone from pursuing them.

Also periodically examine the bolt face and look for hairline cracks, and just change it out if you find any.

like Scope eye said, head space it correctly, watch your pressures and go for it.

I talked to nss, kreiger and my local guy . he got me all convinced when he said that a local had one blow up using factory ammo some years back, and then I went and looked online and found 2 more instances of them letting go. That's why he won't do it.

I am sure that is true, although I would love to know the load they were using, I am sure they did not forward that info, and just blame it on the gun.

Actually to top that, there are some members here including me, that have 50 Cals bolted to small shanks, as we speak mine is on a Stevens 200 and this round holds the same amount as a RUM, one member sixonetonoffun must have 500 rounds down stream, on his.
