    110G date?

New guy here, I have a 270cal. 110G [wood stock] I think, ser.# 8771 pre 1968 I'm trying to date, will get a letter out tomorrow to sav. historian, called sav. today they cant help but did give me the address of historian. Did a search on line no luck with my #. Did a search here and found this from 2013I found this.

It may help date your rifle. My 110L is #57XXX and the oval reads (10S) which would date it as 1968.

"Until 1969, year of manufacture was encoded in a letter stamp enclosed, with two numbers, by an oval: J=1958, K=1959, L=1960, M=1961, etc. After that, Savage deemed company records adequate for dating rifles by serial number, which had begun at 1,000 in 1958. In December

My receiver has no oval with letter stamped inside. Receiver reads: Savage Model 110

Savage Arms corporation Chicopee Falls Mass. Other than that it's clean of any other stamping. Any help would be appreciated, thanks Gary

The serial number puts it at a first year manufacture, 1958.

Sure it's a 110G? Is the "G" stamped on the barrel? I'm wondering if the gun was rebarreled. The 110G didn't come out for quite a few years after the regular 110's.

The "G" not on barrel, only mod.110, not sure where I seen it but seems like I seen where "G" is hardwood stock. Thanks for the help Mad Dog.The cal. is actually a 308 but I did not want to put that in there, I was afraid it would confuse things being that the 308 is short action, I changed the barrel in 2004 from the original 270 barrel. It's been a good shooter, she'll shoot under a 1" at 100yrd. the trigger is heavy at 6# it the next thing to get worked on.
