    Stockade Hunting Sporter build

This is my new Stockade sporter stock. The bedding is complete along with sand and fill. Tomorrow comes primer if I have time. This was my first time using Devcon. I thought the action was gonna get glued to the stock. To no avail it popped out using shoe polish as the release agent. More pics to come.

Nice work. That color on your stock is actually kind of cool. Call it the ghost in the wind effect???

I could just put a matte clear on it and call it good. What do you think?

    I like it...no kidding.

One of these days, I would like to do a digital camo pattern on one of my rifles. But, like yours, matte white and black/gray would be the colors.

I got it primed today but it still needs some filler. I missed a couple of spots so it's back on the bench. Final prime tomorrow after range time. I don't know what I'm going to shoot. Fred has the action off of my bench gun. Maybe it will be a pistol day.

Are you pretty happy with the stock so far? I've been thinking about ordering one for a hunting rifle build. Do you know what barrel contour it's inletted for?

I'm happy with the stock so far. I haven't shot it yet but the action fit is good. after taking out some of the foam in the lug area, I bedded the action with Devcon steel putty. It's the best stuff I've used so far. According to kevin at stockade, all you have to do is put the box magazine shell in the hole and bolt the action on top of it. Rather than taking apart one of my two mags that can be used on a factory gun, I'm waiting on a mag box and follower from SSS. Hopefully it will be here soon, they had to get it from Savage.

The barrel on the action is a Douglas #4 heavy sporter 26 inches long. I had to lightly sand out the end of the barrel channel near the end to float it. Finishing the stock has been a chore and time consuming. I decided to use an auto body urethane finish with a flattener. It turns out that is not very flat. I have seen flat auto body paint and I don't think the guy put enough flattener in it. It's more satin than flat. When it is all said and done.....I'll probably just end up putting on a couple good coats of a reputable buzz can paint.

That sucks because I've spent quite a bit on materials and equipment this far. In the near future I'll be ordering a woodchuck from stockade and will probably get it ready to paint.

All in all.....2 thumbs up on the stock and I didn't have to make it fit.

How long did it take Kevin to get your stock out? Trying to decide with I want to do one of his or grab another LA stock and have it worked up for DBM. Last time I checked it was about a 14 week wait.

I'm guessing it took about 4 months from the time I called him. I don't know the exact time off of the top of my head. I have a brand new grey web duramax that will probably get replaced by a woodchuck without ever being on a gun. I'm also thinking the woodchuck needs to be dbm.

Sounds about right. I should just do it I guess. I've spent more time looking for other options than it would have taken to get the thing out in the first place. lol Woodchuck here I come.... or maybe the PD tactical....oh crap!

Hey stumpjumper... don't forget to post picks once you get more work done on that stock. How does the weight of that stock compare to the factory one?

Yeah I know. One would think that taking the time to put up pictures really doesn't take that long. Nonetheless I've gotta find my camera cord for the computer. Where it went I don't know.

    Re: Stockade Hunting Sporter build

I started out with a urethane auto finish but the paint was no where near flat enough. off to walmart I went for some ultra-flat drab colors. I may sand it back down and put a different pattern on it but that is good enough for hunting season. The rifle started out as a scope package gun in 30-06 DBM. It is now a 6.5x55 swede with the stockade sporter internal box, stockade bolt handle, SSS recoil lug, burris optics, 3 screw trigger lever, and a douglas 26 inch heavy sporter barrel. So far the gun will shoot 140 gamekings into 3/4 @ 100 and 160 hornady RN into a half. Go figure on the round nose.

Sorry it took so long for pics
