    Rear Baffle Clearance

I recently purchased a Savage action, and the clearance between the rear baffle and the back of the receiver is 0.035" with the bolt in battery, which is nearly double any other Savage action I have. Could this be a problem with primary extraction? What is the typical clearance here?

The clearance doesn't make any difference, it's the distance the bolt will cam back when it engages the extraction ramp. It is a combination of the ramp on the bolt handle and the length of the bolt body. If the ramp on the bolt handle is too deep, you could have zero clearance and still have no primary extraction.
