    Bedding a factory laminate

Hey guys I have a factory laminate I intended to bed. I was going to pillar bed but the factory has pillars installed but they weren't high enough to clear the wood inletting.

Should I drill out the factory pillars or just bed over them?

Yes it was already bedded once but it didnt setup right so I redoing it

Depending on what bedding material you are using it might be ok.

I just remove a little wood around the tops of the pillars and bed over them.

Devcon is good and so is Pro bed 2000. I've used both and I've used jb weld in a pinch. I also removed material around the factory pillars. I don't see the point of removing them and risking a break in the stock. The aftermarket pillars require such a big hole and there isn't much stock around the rear action screw.

On it. Got everything floated around the pillars. Need to pickup some guidance screws I can swap for the real deal when seating the action.

I have release agent from my acraglass kit. Use it or buy shoe polish? I kinda like it, shoe polish seems like it would be a pain to clean up.

This may be too late. But the KIWI neutral shoe polish goes on much thinner than the acraglas stuff resulting in tighter bedding. Apply two coats and buff with a shoe brush between coats. It was kinda' scary the 1st time I did it but worked just fine.

There's really no messy cleanup using neutral shoe polish because you buff the metal between each coat applied so there's really no residue to clean up.

So shoe polish is essentially a wax. You put it on and buff it well then do again and bed your gun. Then dont really do anything after bedding except trim the devcon and clear the putty.

Any tricks to cleaning putty off? Still got some clinging to my wood

Looks Good and I know of no trick to removing putty from the stock, maybe a tooth brush and eldow grease.

You could try some acetone or Mythel Ethyl Ketone (MEK) on the putty using q-tips. Do it in a well ventilated area though.
