Steel Cased Ammo in Hog Hunter

Would like to pick up some cheap .308 plinking ammo and I can find some Wolf for under $0.50/round before shipping. I did a search, and could only find an old thread on this subject on the Axis. I’m pretty sure the ammo is ok in the Hog Hunter, but what wasn’t discussed in the thread I found was the Berdan primers. How does the firing pin in the Hog Hunter hold up to Berdan primers?

No problems lighting up a Berdan primer at all. It won't hurt the FP one bit as new Berdan primers are non-corrosive.

The only issue you may have is when using lacquer coated rounds, the lacquer coating can sometimes end up in the chamber. Just make sure, when cleaning the rifle, you give the chamber some cleaning love too.

Thanks for the info. I wasn’t too concerned about shooting steel cased ammo once in a while, but I was unsure about the Berdan primers and the firing pin. I just ordered 200 rounds of the 145 grain Wolf Polly Performance stuff.

The Poly Performance Wolf ammo is not lacquer coated and is good to go. Some of the old surplus steel cased ammo did have the lacquer coat and in a hot chamber could cause problem in autoloaders.

I don't know. I've shot thousands of surplus (corrosive) 5.45x39 lacquer coated rounds through my Arsenal and not a single problem.
