    new rifle...undecided

Hey guys...I'm new to the site. I've been reading for a while and decided to join in. I'm in the market for a new rifle. I have an older savage 116 in 270 and have been looking at the axis 2 in 25-06 or 7mm08 which I'll be able to get for around $359 before tax. Should I get this gun or get a savage 11/111 in either of those calibers? I have plans to get a boyd's stock, fluted bolt and maybe get the stock bedded which I've never had done before. This gun will mostly be for hunting with shots no further than 250 or 300 yrds. Also if I get the axis will I have trouble with getting a 4x12x40 scope mounted on it?

Unless you just want a new rifle, which I totally understand, the 270 you have is as good as a 25-06 or 7mmx08. The Model 11 Light Weight Hunter already has a fluted bolt and a pillar bedded walnut stock complete with Pachmayr pad. Comes in 7mm-08 but personally I would go with the 243. If you get the Axis, definitely get a one-piece picatinny rail. That way you will not have any problems mounting any scope on it.

Either one should be good. If you already have a 116, why not get an Axis so you can say you have both!
