Looking forward to seeing what you end up with. I would love to get one of these in a long action.
Currently in jail for the next ten days is the heart of my new build. A Shilen Short Action DGR. Look forward to getting this one together!

Just waiting on the parts to come in and I pick it up next week!
That it is. Shilen uses the Stiller predator action but threads for Savage prefits with a Rem700 footprint. Best of both worlds. An about the same cost (most likely less) compared to having a target action T&T'd and inletted to be a repeater.

Exactly, you have hit the economics of taking a savage and then spending $$ or just start with an action and add trigger to it.
I like trigger options for that action and let's not start on the stock options.
So you order one directly from shilen?
I wonder if they have one strong enough for 338 lapua?
newbie from gr, mi.
They do single shot variant (DGV). Bolt head offered were, .223, .308. or magnum. Not sure if the Lapua will work, but a lot of guys run 7STW and other Long Range hunting caliber choices on them. Actually, look at the Stiller Precision website because it's actually a Stiller predator action with a few changes. Stiller has a separate action built for the 338. This is very similar to the TAC 30, they do a TAC 300 and TAC 338 if my memory is functioning properly. So my guess would be they recommend a heavier action. Sure 338 Edge would work though!

Very cool, that definitely opens a few doors.
Going to run my AGW 7 twist 243 win with 105-115's, Timney 517, in an XLR Element Chasis with my Vortex Razor 5-20x50, and an APA Gen2 Lil Bastxxx brake.

I have a build off of a long action Shilen DGR. Love the action. Really very affordable if you are one that cant leave a savage action alone and have to time and true and upgrade bolt parts and all the fun stuff. Getting access to all the Remington stock and triggers was a huge plus, while being able to screw on prefits. My build started as a 338-06 for deer hunting before they canceled the late season here in Iowa so we couldn't use high powers. Ended up ordering a 243 win barrel to use as a coyote/carry gun. Goal was to make it light weight and easy handling. Complete with optics gun comes in at 8lbs.
Shilen DGR long action
McGowen 24" 243 win sporter contour.
Pac Nor 22" fluted #5 contour 338-06
B&C Alaskan II with full bed block
Jewell Trigger set at 2.5#
Hinged floor plate from Shilen
Talley one piece rings
Leupold vx3 4.5-14 x 40 cds
Nice, I'm using it for my competition build. Savage action will become my practive rig most likely.
I had a left port right bolt single shot in a 6br i built to shoot fclass. Ended up selling and getting the repeater when worked changed and i couldnt shoot fclass anymore. Both have been great actions.
Some info, installed Timney 517 Straight trigger pretty easy!
Replaced small tear drop knob with Badger bolt knob.
The scope rail and recoil lug are both pinned.
Just waiting on my stock to arrive hopefully next week!
What did you have to do to replace the knob? As easy as unscrew the one it comes with and screw on the Badger?
Yep, they come threaded.
do they take small or large shank bbls.
Small Shank.
Just got the notice from XLR that my Element Chassis is complete and ready to ship!
Cant wait to see the pictures. I use the Evolution and wish I could trade it in for an Element. The tube has its uses but is not practical.
Got the notice that the Chassis was delivered. Will get it together and pictures up tonight. Going to try to zero on Saturday and shoot a match on Sunday!
