And these light strikes always came at the most inopportune times, too. Never happened before and started the day I was at my brother in laws garage, pulled the bolt out & set it on the work bench to do a little barrel cleaning. Well, set it on the work bench after I carefully selected a spot that didn't have too much junk on it, performed said cleaning task and replaced the bolt. Never gave it a second thought.

After the 3rd light primer strike in 4 weeks I got worried my beloved '06 was in need of some serious parts replacement. While at home in my reloading room (where I can actually see the bench top) I pull the bolt, set it down and said to myself "self, that just doesn't look right."
I pick the bolt up & look at it under a light.

Here's what I see:

A different angle for effect:

I had a heckuva time getting that steel ball out of there. The wads of grease & oil you see are from me trying to convince it to come out.
And no, it's not from one of those wonderful home brew .38 special case heads w/ steel ball bolt lift kits. I stopped using that quite a while ago.

Moral of the story:
Ya just never know...
