What about a build on a 110e Short Action?

Hello. I have the chance to get a 110e short action to be my 1st savage build. It was a 243, but that barrel is trash. I want to build a 7-08, but like the idea of having it on a long action to get around the mag limiting the seating depth on my loads. As I understand the 110e is an "intermediate" action, and found specs on the bolt spacing. However I can't find specs on a the mag box length. Anyone help me there? It will be a while before I can visit my friend who wants to sell it or I'd just go measure it.

Also, how difficult is to get stocks for this action? Other things to be aware of good or bad?

    Thanks in advance.

My first build was a 110E, it was a standard length long action in 270 and worked great as a 260.

It's a 110e, had a 243 barrel on it. S# E4799xxx. From what I read, it's what some call the intermediate length. I'd like to know the mag box length on it, and if there's any other things I should know if I do buy it to build on. The stock is gone so I need one. Any ideas on that would be appreciated as well.

Measure the action screw spacing to verify if it is indeed intermediate length - my 110E was standard 5.072" length.

I'll have to see if my friend can double check the spacing, but he said he was fairly sure it was 4.5".

Ok. Measurments checked and it is indeed 4.52" spacing on the action screws. He said the box is about 2.9", which is better than some SA boxes.

I'm not seeing a lot of options on stocks. It looks like a cheaper option is to go with Boyds stocks. Opinions on them or other recommendations?

I had one of the intermediate actions and ended up selling it as a complete hunting rifle. It was fine as a hunting gun, but the lack of aftermarket parts kept me from building it.

The Boyd's stock is one of the only options for that spacing, but they make a decent product for the money.

I haven't been too active here for a while, but I am about to finish my 110E intermediate action project.
I started a thread a while back it's probably archived now but here are some pic's with measurements of a intermediate action.
    Curt

    I took the rifle from a .223 to a .243 and here's what I had to do.
    1. new bolt head, milled for the bolt protrusion, drilled for larger firing pin diameter.
    2. new mag box, .223 has a internal baffle, I used a standard 110 .308 mag box (they fit).
    3. Stockade Stock, they will open up the inletting for $20 to fit intermediate.
    4. EGW 20moa scope rail for intermediate action.

Don't shy away, it's really not that hard to work around,I found all my information for this build from this site, I just tried to compile it all on one place for anyone wanting to build on these intermediate actions, I'll have to poke around in the archives to see if I can find the original post I made.
